The Certified Public Manager® designation is recognized in over 40 states and the District of Columbia as being thepremier designation for governmental managers. It shows that you are dedicated to your position and are professionally equipped to better handle the roles required of mid and upper level governmental staff and elected officials.

Graduates of the Missouri accredited CPM program will be eligible to form a state CPM society and to become members of the American Academy of Certified Public Managers®. The Academy web site is www.cpmacademy.org.

Why is education for public managers so important?

  • To maintain the public trust so citizens can be confident in the ability of government leaders to do their job;

  • To ensure that work is completed as efficiently and effectively as possible;

  • To ensure that the most qualified individuals are in management positions;

  • To keep managers abreast of changes in technology;

  • To help managers better understand, communicate with, and lead the people they manage;

  • To meet society's emphasis on the accountability of government leaders.

The National Certified Public Manager® Consortium provided MDI with broad guidelines to develop an accredited program. The CPM Competency Model focuses to improve the performance of public sector managers and the overall organizational performance of state, local and federal government.
